for architect-office ES°TE, I was the project design architect for the
design of a Wolff cinema theatre complex of 18 theatres, in Utrecht,
The Netherlands.
The 18 theatres co-exist with a food court, casino and office-tower on the site of the “Jaarbeurshallen”. All the surrounding buildings on the site of the “Jaarbeurshallen” are rectangular, large-scale, closed volumes with an industrial appearance. The concept is to contrast this with a fragmented building in which each theatre is clearly visible in the facades, providing a variation in the long stretch of façade instead of a monotonous solid, closed block. The casino, as well as the theatres, “float” over a glass base, containing the food-court and central entrance-accesses. |
