for architect-office ES°TE, I was member of the project-team for the
design competition of a large-scale shopping-complex, Dubai, Emirates.
The shopping-complex is sub-divided into different departments, located around a “central node volume” (yellow volume). Each department is set out around a court containing restaurants and leisure. The roof-slides provide filtered daylight for the courts of each department. The “central node volume” (yellow volume) contains the major leisure and top-restaurants, cafés, etc. It is a “golden box” inside the complex, providing the visitor clear orientation in the big complex. The central entrance is located in front of this “golden box”. Each department has a separate entrance, directly accessible from the parking at ground floor. The “slid” roof folds up to form office-blocks at the extreme end of a department. A clear organigramme and layout provides a large-scale project with a human scale. |
