Working for architect-office ES°TE, I
was the project-architect for the design and execution of a KINEPOLIS
cinema theatre complex of 18 theatres, in Granada, Spain. The complex was to be designed, together with a concession-area for restaurants, shops, etc, being placed in front of the theatre. The design and finance of the concession-area was done by an exterior partner. Our entrance was only accessible through the concession-area. The lay-out is a simple and compact lay-out plan, with gradually bigger theatres towards the sides. The complex needed an attractive entrance, with roof-daylights, providing the foyer at the inner part of the complex with natural (and artificial) daylight. An “office-box” is created as a fold of the ceiling-plane. Its vertical glass cuts continue into the roof, acting as daylight roof-domes and continuing in its floor-plate as light-strips, providing the reception area underneath with a lit-up ceiling. Lit-up signalization-walls divide the controlled from the uncontrolled area of the foyer. The carpet is designed with a central strip of a project designed Arab pattern, to accentuate the long foyer and is a subtle reference to the Morish influence of Granada architecture. |
